As the Spanish multinational INDITEX Group is expanding into India with its brand Zara UNI Commerce Global Union will keep a close look that the company will respect ILO Conventions and see to it that good working conditions are being created. UNI Commerce welcomes the initiative by INDITEX Group to create new and more jobs in India as the global economic crisis begins to impact on global unemployment figures but will not be ready to accept the creation of indecent workplaces. As INDITEX Group opened more than 450 stores last year UNI Commerce is concerned if the group is capable of implementing decent working conditions in all of its workplaces.



INDITEX Group expansion into India is in coorperation with the Indian conglomerate TATA Group and its subsidiary Trent Group and shops will open up in 2010 in New Delhi and in Mumba. The expansion is part of an ogoing thrust to expand into Asia. Russia and South Korea are already important markets to INDITEX which is represented in 74 countries around the world.
