UNI AFRICA IS RISING FOR PEACE

Next 21 September 2012, will be the 30th World Day of Peace.
The world has certainly made a big technological and material step, but at the same time, on the human level, the conflicts have multiplied and changed. It is no more conflict between countries and peoples, but conflicts between individuals and groups of individuals, communities and conflicts at workplaces as well.
As organizations operating in the workplace, UNI Africa and all the unions in the world, we have a duty to enroll in this vast movement that is building a lasting peace.
Thus, build and promote a culture of peace relate not only on distant regions in war, but also on our own society, our immediate environment. This day is an opportunity for us unionists from all countries to consider ways to sow seeds of peace around us and especially in our unions.
But, where to find and how to sow the virtual seeds?
These seeds are in us and around us; we gradually acquired them through all types of learning, exchange of experiences with others. It is our responsibility to implement them through our daily actions, permeating the values of peace in our lives, our work, and our leadership.
1. Add a lot of tolerance in our dealings with each other.
2. Exercise democracy within the union so that each entity, each member is taken into account in decisions and be listened to.
3. Respect the difference of women and youth and allow them to exist and to enjoy the same privileges as men.
4. Advocating ethics in everyday acts the same in smaller tasks entrusted to us.
5. Non-violence is the essence of all values. Act of nonviolent guess our words and thoughts are non-violent.
6. Practice solidarity which is the basis of trade unionism, solidarity among trade union members, not only nationally but internationally
7. Respect the rights of the human being at all times and especially those of women.
8. Promote the use of alternative methods of dispute resolution.
9. Apply equality between men and women, between young and senior, between managers and employees.
These values should be taught around us, to negotiate them into manuals and / or union training programs, vocational training and civic education.
This is an ambitious project, but the scope of each.
