UNI Global Union condemned news that the head of IBM Turkey is leading an anti-union campaign to intimidate workers and force them to give up their union membership.

TEZ-KOOP-IS says that IBM Turkey Manager Michel Charouk has repeatedly threatened to fire union members. Forms have been left at a nearby notary public for employees to fill out to cancel their union membership.

These latest union-busting efforts are part of an ongoing anti-union campaign at IBM Turkey. Last year IBM Turkey sacked three activists who had organised employees almost 70 percent of the workforce. IBM Turkey denied trade union recognition even after a first instance court ruled that IBM had to. Since then UNI affiliate TEZ-KOOP-IS has continued its legal battle over trade union recognition.

Despite the attack on the union, TEZ-KOOP-IS members are standing together in unity to fight for their rights to have union representation and collective bargaining.
