This week, reports from the US suggest that Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile is considering other options for strengthening its position in the US markets.



After reportedly engaging Deutsche Bank to analyse the pros and cons of merging with Sprint Nextel, Deustche Telekom is also considering buying up its regional USA rival, Dallas-based Metro PCS.



The transaction could be worth USD5 billion and would bring together two key players in the low-cost market. Both companies are struggling to weather the storm of the economic downturn, particularly Deutsche Telekom which is losing high-end market share to AT&T and Verizon Wireless and facing tough competition from operators like PCS at the low-end.
