UNI and its affiliates stand in full solidarity with the GSEE and GENOP/DEI trade unions in calling on the Greek authorities to drop all charges against the GENOP/DEI President Nikos Photopoulos and other members of the union who await trial today, January 10, because of a sit-in protest last November at the company’s computing headquarters to prevent the levying of an emergency property tax via electricity bills as part of the devastating austerity policies imposed on the Greek people. The trade union leaders face charges that could see them jailed for up to five years,



This comes at a time of renewed demands concerning the abolishment of the National Collective Labour Agreement and the minimum wage, as well as new wage and pension cuts, immediate mass lay-offs in the public sector and lowering employers’ social security contributions.
