Two union members were injured at a strike of cash in transit workers in Chile on Tuesday morning. The injuries occurred on the 12th day of an indefinite strike between the CIT Prosegur union in Chile and the company.

Prosegur have reported a 14.4% increase in their revenue in Chile between the first quarter 2014 and 2015. Nevertheless, the company has offered cash in transit workers a 0% salary increase. The police action occurred as cash in transit vehicles were leaving the Santiago base of Prosegur through a picket line. Last week police water cannon and tear gas were used on Prosegur workers outside the company’s Santiago base.

The clashes followed an attempted mediation to the dispute by the Ministry of Labour in Chile who called both sides to the bargaining table on Monday for mediated talks. However, Prosegur didn’t attend the meeting leaving the conflict no closer to a solution. Prosegur’s attitude to the conflict is in stark contrast to Brinks whose union went on strike on Monday last week. The company and the union had constructive talks at the Ministry of Labour on Monday.

The conflict of the Brinks and Prosegur unions at the same time has caused a shortage of cash in the country. Prosegur is alleged, and been investigated for, illegally using replacement workers during the strike action.
