Yesterday, the European Commission has published contributions to the public consultation on the a possible updated framework for state funding of public service broadcasting. It issues also a summary, of the contributions. Many Member States, EBU, ACT, AER, CEPI have submitted responses as well as EFJ and EURO-MEI.



The Commission announced that it “may come forward later this year with a proposal for a revised Broadcasting Communication, with a view to its adoption in the first half of 2009”. The EURO-MEI expects that the Commission will now prepare an update of the rules. In a meeting organised with DG Competition last year, the EURO-MEI’ PSB working group already got the impression that th Commission would like to review the framework and propose to intoduce similar rules to those in the UK which apply to the BBC, in partciular installing an ex-ante assessment procedure.
