The elections became necessary after the resignation of Allan Bang in December 2009.



Edgardo thanked Allan for his great work in building together with the entire team a solid foundation for the work of UNI Europa Finance. "I am looking forward to develop UNI Europa Finance forward; it is a team effort and we have a good team," said Edgardo. "UNI Europa Finance is well placed to strengthens the position of unions in European regulation, companies and social dialogue. We are on a good way." A key concern for Edgardo is diversity and equality. In the new Presidium, he will have lead responsibility on this issue as well as on regulation and central banks.



Edgardo was the only candidate nominated by a wide majority of unions throughout Europe. Edgardo has been a Vice-President of UNI Europa Finance since its inception in 2003 and a member of the UNI Finance Steering Group. He is a national secretary of his union and a member of the the EU's Economic and Social Committee.



Lillemore Smedenvall replaces Allan as the Vice-President from the Nordic Area. The other Vice-Presidents are Pia Desmet (BBTK-SETCA/Belgium), Rob MacGregor (Unite/UK) and Jörg Reinbrecht (ver.di/Germany). Therefore, there is now a full gender balance among the Vice-Presidents.



Replacing Lillemore, Michael Budolfsen (FSU/Denmark) was elected as titular member of the Steering Group for the Nordic Area (Area 2).



The Steering Group elected all colleagues unanimously.
