Guatemala City. Spanish Iberdrola will stop being the shareholder operator of the Electricity Company of Guatemala Ltd. (EEGSA), after subscribing, an agreement in New York through which it sells an 80 % of the shares of the Guatemalan company to the Medellin Group of Public Companies (EPM) for U$S 605 million. Iberdrola Energy from Spain, Teco Energy from USA; and Energías from Portugal, a consortium owner of an 80% of EEGSA shares under the Central American Society of Electricity Distribution II (Deca II), agreed the sale of the distribution operations and commercialization in Guatemala to the EPM Group, property of the Municipality of Medellín, Colombia. Iberdrola owned a 49% of the shares in Deca II; Teco Energy a 30%, and Energías, a 21%. The EEGSA renders services to 930 thousand clients in Guatemala.
