UNI Global Union General Secretary, Philip Jennings said, "We thank all of our US affiliates for their contribution to the labour movement on this special holiday. We know that US unions are fighting hard against the systematic anti-union activities of many companies. As we saw with the Houston janitors strike recently, when we stand together we win. We join you in the struggle against inequality and the victimisation of workers. We are prepared to take on the big commercial beasts and to face them down. We are fighting Walmart not only in the US but around the world from Mexico to South Africa across to India to ensure that a decent day's work receives a decent day's pay. We will not allow multinational companies to get away with lousy labour relations in the US which would be deemed unacceptable in their home countries. Whether it be Deutsche Poste/DHL or ISS we stand with you in protecting the right's of the worker and for all that the Labour Day holiday represents."
