As part of a seminar on human rights, organized by UNI Americas in Colombia, representatives of unions and union federations affiliated to UNI on August 4 delivered a letter from UNI calling on the US government to pass a law ensuring US workers have the right to join a union.



The labour movement in North American has had an important role in the call for Colombia to respect unions, workers and human rights in any trade agreements, UNI Americas said.



“Supporting this proposed legislation is the least we can do to support North American unions,” said the union activists who delivered the letter to the US Embassy.

The 11 Colombian organisations in the delegation were:

ANEBRE (finance), SINTRATHOMAS (graphical), SINTRABRINKS (security), STPC (postal), USTC (telecom), FENALGRAP (graphical) SINTRATELMEX (telecom), SINDESS (social security), UNEB (finance), SINTRAPULCAR (graphical), SINDEFONAHORRO (finance).
