The 2030 Agenda: how Social Dialogue combats inequality and ensures social cohesion
The Sustainable Development Goals were adopted at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015. They commit all countries to achieve 17 goals or “SDGs” from the 1st of January 2016 to the end of 2030. This 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan for people, planet and prosperity. It recognizes the urgent need to eradicate poverty and protect the environment from further degradation to support the needs of future generations. It reaffirms strongly that the future of humankind is in our hands and that no one should be left behind.
The High-Level Political Forum is the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda by countries and the first Ministerial meeting will take place from the 11th to the 20th of July 206 in New York. Employers and employees are part of this major transformation. The Worker and Trade Union Major Group has submitted an official document to the 2016 High-Level Political Forum highlighting the role of social dialogue to combat inequality, ensure social cohesion and decent jobs for all (see the document attached).
