The UNI Americas regional office in Panama is making contact with all of its Chilean affiliates to ensure that union leaders, union staff and union members are accounted for and safe. So far UNI has not received any reports of colleagues being killed but some are still unaccounted for.



UNI Americas Regional Secretary Raul Requena, who is from Chile, is in the country and is reaching out to the unions to find out what kind of assistance they need.



Outside of Chile, UNI affiliates are already gathering solidarity funds to send to their colleagues in need.



UNI is working with local leaders and the international union movement to find the best way to get support to local people and to unions and union members. They will need help rebuilding in the coming weeks and months, UNI said.
