A UNI Apro delegation headed by President Kato made a short visit to the Cambodia Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in January 2013.



They were there to exchange views on trade unions with H.E. Sat Samouth, advisor to the Senate President under the Secretary of State and other high senior officials.



President Kato understands that Cambodia had many labour management disputes last year due to management and employees misunderstanding of labour law. He suggested that tripartite forums can be held so that there can be social dialogue between government, management, and trade unions. This will help to defuse disputes and help them understand labour laws and rules.



“Labour management partnership is very important for social dialogue. It can help to increase labour, living conditions, and productivity,” said President Kato.



Samouth agreed and said that the government will play the role of parent among tripartite framework to guide all concerned parties in the right direction.



President Kato said that “sound industrial relationship also enables business profits, as well as national development.”



Samouth added that the management and trade unions in Cambodia need experience on practicing industrial relations and hopes that UNI Apro can support Cambodia in promoting sound industrial relation.
