The Communication Workers Union organized a massive rally yesterday in Manchester as part of their People's Post campaign. The rally, which drew more than 1,000 participants inside Manchester Cathedral and thousands more outside, coincided with a massive protest movement of activists gate crashing the nearby Conservative Party Conference. Speaking at the People's Post rally, Jeremy Corbyn, the newly-elected leader of the Labour Party, said his party remains committed to public ownership and public control of the Royal Mail, which was privatized in late 2013. 

"Our party is committed to opposing austerity, commited to opposing the privisation of Royal Mail, commited to the public control of Royal Mail and other public services," Corbyn said. 

The People's Post rally also included addresses from the Green Party leader and columnist Owen Jones, who addressed UNI's Congress last year in Cape Town. The CWU organized the event to rally support behind their campaign to defend a public Royal Mail, improve customer protections in postal services and to eliminate bad regulation which is leading a race to the bottom in postal and delivery services in the UK.
