Banking Industry Tripartite Council, Philippines; reach another milestone
The unique social dialogue mechanism put in place to clarify and resolve varied labour-management issues and concerns in the banking industry in Philippines reached another milestone on 19th May 2015, signing 04 resolutions to strengthen the functioning of the Banking Industry Tripartite Council. [BITC]
Tripartite partners,namely, Central Bank of Philippines, Department of Labour, Bankers Association and Banking industry trade unions agreed to step up the social dialogue process; affirming BITC as the exclusive forum for the discussion and resolutions of labour related issues affecting the banking industry by reconstituting the council and establishing guidelines for conciliation-mediation of labour disputes under the council in Manila, Philippines.
Central Bank Governor Amando M. Tetangco and Madam Rosalinda Baldoz Secretary of Department of Labour signed the resolutions on behalf of the Government of Philippines, Mr. Lorenzon V. Tan President of Bankers Association of Philippines together with Mr. Misael Moraleda , Mr. Rommel S. Latinazo Presidents of Rural Banks and Chamber of Thrift Banks respectively signed for Banks. Mr. Jose P. Umali, Jr., (NUBE National President), Mr. Sonny Matula ( FFW President), Mr. Gerard Seno (National Vice President ALU) were the signatories representing the banking industry trade unions.
The four new resolutions signed included provision to enlarge the composition of the council and designating members for the Grievance Committee in charge for any dispute settlements. BITC was established in 2000 with the advent of Asian Financial Crisis to minimize job losses resulting from consolidation of banks through mergers and acquisitions. Frist Resolution of BITC was adopted in 2011; introducing “Banking Industry Voluntary Code of Good Practice on Dispute Settlement and Outsourcing/Subcontracting of Certain Bank Functions.”
UNI Apro Regional Secretary Christopher Ng congratulated Jun Umali National President of NUBE for the pioneering efforts in introducing a voluntary dispute settlement system under BITC and said that; outstanding achievement in Philippines; will certainly inspire other tripartite partners in the finance sector in other ASEAN countries to follow suit.
