Inditex is a company with a proud reputation as a socially responsible business around the world. Inditex has, for instance, signed a global agreement with UNI Global Union and commits to respecting the rights of its workers worldwide. In many countries, workers in Zara and other Inditex brands enjoy rights consistent with the obligations laid down in the global agreement with UNI.
For these reasons, we were surprised when we learnt of the company's position in the USA. Zara workers in the USA report that they are subject to poverty schedules, a lack of advancement opportunities for people of color, and low wages. In fact, Zara workers state that New York City management has capped their hours at 25 per week in order to avoid providing them with healthcare coverage.

In the USA, unlike in other countries, Inditex refuses to give practical effect to its Global Agreement. In the USA, Inditex and Zara workers do not have the same rights of consultation and negotiation as they do in other countries. In the USA, Inditex does not - as it does in other countries - permit workers to have the same rights to freely choose the union, should they wish.
We are calling on Inditex globally, and Zara management in the USA, to give effect to the terms of the company's Global Agreement with UNI and allow workers to freely choose a voice on the job. Meanwhile, we pledge to stand with Zara workers in the USA - as only together can we #ChangeZara.
