Korean UNI affiliate the KHMU will take strike action on June against the privatization of healthcare. This strike is a part of a wider campaign which has included conducting a million signature campaign against the further privatization of healthcare.

So far 300,000 people have already signed and the union expects to reach their target.  To further their efforts, Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union president Yoo, Ji-hyun held a street event and signature-collection campaign at Seoul Station on May Day.

In addition, the KHMU marched on the street at May Day events, carrying out placards highlighting these serious issues.

The KHMU held a Congress on April 30 where delegates adopted statement on the Sewol Ferry Disaster calling for an indepth investigation. Delegates also called for a special audit, and a union action plan for collective bargaining. 

Union delegates unanimously agreed to submit a complaint to the labor commission as of June 5th and, after a 15 day of cooling off period, the KHMU will be able to take industrial acction including strike action from June the 23rd.

As a follow up action the KHMU will extend its signature campaign to call for indepth investigation on Sewol Ferry Disaster, where 29 students and other people remain missing.
