Dozens of employees of R.R. Donnelley, leaders of unions from 10 countries in Asia, the Americas and Europe, and representatives of UNI Graphical Global Union and the Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union (GCC) brought the plight of workers who want to form unions to the R.R. Donnelly headquarters in downtown Chicago today.





“We came to meet with Thomas Quinlan, the CEO of R.R. Donnelly because there are workers at this company trying to become labor union members who are being discriminated against,” said Joe O’Connor, Vice President of the Graphic Communications Conference of the Teamsters Union. “Building a dialogue about responsible corporate practices and improving employee relations is our goal.”

Earlier this year, UNI had sent a letter to Donnelly’s Quinlan asking for a discussion about honoring global labor standards banning discrimination and prohibiting intimidation when employees wish to unionize. Upon visiting the RRD headquarters today, officials of UNI and the GCC were able to speak with Quinlan’s assistant, giving them another copy of the letter.



“It worries us very much that a company like Donnelley refuses to respect the the wprlers right to form a Union and to allow collective bargaining”, said Michel Muller, the President of UNI Graphical Global Union. “We cannot understand the lack of interest of Mr. Thomas Quinlan in establishing a constructive dialogue with the Teamsters and with UNI Global Union. Donnelley’s shareholders should be very concerned about this attitude”.
