ACT NOW: Say No to cynical managers in E-Kart in Turkey!

Say No to cynical managers in E-Kart in Turkey! Say Yes to support Basin-Is members!
Now it is time to say NO to strategic cynicism of E-Kart management!
For more than two years, E-Kart management in Turkey have been struggling against the workers who want to ensure the Universal Right for Freedom of Association and Collective Bargaining, guaranteed by ILO Conventions, EU Regulations and Turkish legislation.
E-Kart management is running its anti-union operation strategically, step by step – the way it is done could only be called “Strategic Cynicism”.
In their letter to UNI, E-Kart top-managers Enver Irdem and Tayfun Tonguc have confirmed:
“E-Kart with all its employees is a proud member of Eczacibasi Holding and Giesecke&Devrient, both reputable and respected companies of the globe. Being a member of these two strong Groups, E-Kart fully respects human rights, business ethics, environmental principals and moral values of the global society we live in.
Each and every one of our employees is a very important member of our team, which means being part of a dynamic, growing company with a strong track record of excellence, performance and responsible growth. We challenge our employees to think creatively, set bold objectives and achieve exceptional results. In return, we offer them compensation and benefits in relation to our financial results.”
But what is really happening?
Management uses all methods and means to get rid of Basin-Is’ trade unionists, both women and men, by firing them one by one, intimidating them, discriminating them and by pushing members to resign from Basin-Is.
UNI-Europa Executive saw this as a serious violation of rights by the graphical company E-Kart and took the protest to the streets of Istanbul.
A contingent of Basin-Is members, led by Philip Jennings, UNI General Secretary; Michel Muller, UNI Graphical World President, and Simon Dubbins, UNI-Europa Graphical President, delivered a letter of protest to E-Kart.
A four-man team from UNI and Basin-Is was allowed into the lobby of the E-Kart offices for a 15-minute talk with Mustafa Eren from the holding company. “We told E-Kart that this is a local issue, which is fast becoming a European issue and that we will take it to the European Commission, to the European Parliament and to the German Parliament,” reported Philip Jennings.
New anti-union actions accelerated just before the workers’ legal strike was called today, 16 June: one of the leading workers was dismissed and two workers were intimidated at their workplace.
Now it is time to say NO to the strategic cynicism of the E-Kart management!
Today, 16 June, at 16:00 (Istanbul time) our affiliate Basin-Is and E-Kart workers will start their legal strike until their freedom of association and collective agreement rights are respected and until Collective negotiations are started.
Basin-Is' protest is not only against E-Kart Managers but also against owning partner companies Eczacibasi and Giesecke&Devrient since they have not intervened in E-Kart's anti-union attitudes.
UNI Graphical fully supports this action and calls all of you, trade union activists and members to join UNI's Click and Go campaign by sending protest letters to E-Kart management and Solidarity messages to Basin-Is.
Please send your messages today starting from 16:00 Istanbul time.
