On July 4-5, UNI’s project in conjunction with the Swedish union SEKO to help union organising in mobile phone companies in Central and Eastern Europe was held in Tbilisi with participants from Georgian Communication Workers’ Trade Union. The participants heard presentations from the UNI Moscow office staff lead by Olga Vinogradova, on the organising initiatives in the region, UNI priorities in EE&CA and UNI Moscow Organizing campaign “Say Yes to the Union”.



Giedre Lelyte, Research Assistant of UNI Telecom, presented the decisions taken in the UNI Telecom World meeting, stressing the need of organizing in multinationals. She explained the importance of global framework agreements and international solidarity.



Bjorn Lindh from SEKO gave details of the extensive operations of the Swedish based multinational, TeliaSonera in the countries in this region. TeliaSonera owns 74 percent of Fintur Holdings, which manages mobile in the region as well as Geocell in Georgia.



The participants discuss possible actions to organize in Geocell and other mobile phone companies in Georgia and decided to establish a working group dealing with organizing planning and strategies. The group should start targeting Geocell in August.
