Copenhagen Airports (which are majority-owned by Macquarie Airports) has just been sentenced by the Danish labour court.



The case was brought by the Danish Federation of Salaried employees, an affiliate union of UNI Global Union. The Federation claimed that Copenhagen Airports failed, on several occasions during July 2008, to respect a written agreement about how many security officers were required to be on duty.



The labour court president decided in favour of the Federation and sentenced Copenhagen Airports to pay a fine to the Federation, in an amount which was twice the amount that the airport had saved on wages by not respecting its agreement.



Security branch president in Danish Federation of Salaried employees John Dybart says:



"I am very pleased with the sentence. It is very clear and points out that Copenhagen Airports and thereby Macquarie Airports, should not be able to save money by breaching collective agreements.



In this case it ended up costing Copenhagen Airports twice the amount of what they tried to save by not respecting the agreement, in a fine to the union."
