![]() In the Philippines, the months of April and May are the time for summer vacations: for others, it’s a time for summer outings and for children; it’s a time to play and enjoy their free time in the sun. The UNI-PLC Youth Committee is launching its “Share a Blessing Project” for Payatas children this summer. Through this project, youth members will have a chance to donate old toys, used clothes, books and school supplies for the children beneficiaries of Payatas. Last March 28, 2009, young members from the different federations and unions of UNI-PLC launched the said project by visiting the Payatas community and initially giving a small plastic bag of goodies with a toy, cupcake, biscuits, juice pack and candies to about 50 children. These bags of goodies were prepared by the members during its special meeting at the UNI-PLC headquarters in Quezon City. Our initial efforts have resulted in a collection of used toys, old clothes, activity books and school supplies to the project. With the commitment of other youth members to gather more donations from colleagues and family members, we are hoping to donate more for the benefit of the children. For the succeeding month of April, UNI-PLC Youth will revisit Payatas to distribute the used clothes and old toys to the children. We hope that we would be able to gather enough donations to give not only to our current beneficiaries of our feeding programs but also to other children. In May, the UNI PLC youth committee members will visit Payatas once again to distribute the activity books and schools supplies in time for the opening of school year this June. The “Share a Blessing” Project is in line with the UNI-PLC’s thrust to help not only the nutritional needs of the children but also the educational and emotional aspects of the Payatas Children. |
