Today 27 May 2009, a trade union meeting has been organised in the UNI Europa Graphical permisses in order to discuss the situation of Donneley in Europe. Have attended this meeting trade union representatives from Unite (UK), from FILPAC (France) as well as trade union representatives from the Donneley site in Belgium located in Erembodegem, which is about to close.
The participants have exchanged in-depth information on the situation of the Donnelley plants in each country.
The Belgian colleagues said that the closure of the Erembodegem site concerns 95 workers. Those 95 people will lose their job in the coming days. For the moment, a social plan is under negotiation with the management and a agreement is planned to be reached in the coming days.
The French colleagues expressed that they expect to have a clearer view on the intentions of Donneley regarding the company located in Cosne-sur-Loire in France, once the social plan in Belgian will be agreed.
In the UK, at Flaxby Moor, the situation is know stable after the loss of contrats which represented about 20% of the production and had led to redundancies.
All workers of Donnelley in Europe are worried about their future, as they have difficulties to understand the Donnelley future plans and strategy in Europe.
The participants bitterly regret that the managament of Donneley didn’t give a positive answer to the legitimate European workers request to negotiate the setting up of a European Works Council. Such structure would have allowed the workers representatives to be informed and consulted on the European strategy of the company during these very difficult times.
The participants at the meeting strongly commit themselves to maintain close contacts between them in order to relaunch the negotiation of a European works council.
