Launch of the HIV prevention camapign in Burkina Faso

The joint campaign to prevent HIV and Aids was launched on 9 July in Burkina Faso post offices, with the participation of UNI and its affiliate from Burkina Faso, Syntrapost. The campaign is jointly organised by UNAIDS, the ILO, the UPU and UNI Global Union.
The launching started in the morning with the activities organised around blood donation. This was very successful and the expectations of the National Centre for Blood Transfusion were well exceeded.
The launching itself took place in the evening. The ceremony was sponsored by the Minister in charge of Post, Information technology and Communication. The Ministers for Social Action, Employment and Social Security were also present, as well as the National Coordinator for the UN, the WHO, UNICEF, the SP/CNLS, the focal person of the ILO-Burkina Faso and the UNI Regional Secretary for Africa.
The President of the Organising Committee thanked the pioneers of this campaign and welcomed all the guests.
The UN resident representative then took the floor to explain the evolution and the current situation of the pandemic and gave further details about this campaign involving postal workers. He thanked the postal authorities for their involvement in the campaign.
Mr Kafando P. Arthur, Director General of SONAPOST, then addressed the participants, thanking them for choosing Burkina Faso as a pilot country for this campaign. He also emphasized the engagement of postal workers in this fight against the pandemic and further encouraged postal workers’ involvement in this campaign in order to make it successful.
The official speech for the launch of the campaign was made by the Minister in charge of Post, Information Technology and Communication. He thanked, in the name of the Burkina Faso Government, the pioneers of this project and all the involved partners of this joint campaign.
He also recalled the main governmental strategies on HIV and AIDS in Burkina Faso and encouraged all SONAPOST employees to take part in the campaign. He then officially launched the campaign under applauses.
A symbolic putting up of the campaign posters then took place.
