The New Concept Office at the Norwegian Post was not the “golden egg” able to contribute to new revenue for post offices. Instead, the project resulted in staffing and reducing the rented floor space. The Post planned to cut 300 jobs annually between 2010 and 2012. 65 post offices would have been covered by job cuts already this year.



Postkom decided to intervene in order to secure the critical following staffing principles:



- Keeping Saturday off;

- Two guards, no less;

- Saving most possible full-time positions;

- No redundant should be sent to unemployment, alternative employment should be find within the group or externally.



It is essential to ensure both safety and working conditions for those who are continuing to work in the new post office concept, emphasizes Thore Power, Division representative in the mail section. The restructuration should be implemented with prior notice, negotiated and in adequacy with carrier’s plans as far as possible. The process and the agreement’s implementation will be followed, so if this does not go as planned with Postkom, the union would go back to negotiations. According to the agreement, HR support has been established, and Protection Service has actively participated with Postkom on planning of facilities and equipment. This cooperation will continue also in the implementation phase.



Resulting from the agreement, new staffing will be determined at each post office in consultations with local district representatives in Division Post. The final staffing shall take into account the local and actual conditions, as Thore Power specified.
