With the aim of improving its procedures and services, the staff of UNI americas met on March 9 and 10, 2010, at the Panama office, for a thorough evaluation of the planning work and the political results achieved in the 11th UNI americas Regional Executive Committee held on February 16 and 17 in Montevideo, Uruguay.



The analysis centered on the priorities and objectives of the “Breaking Through in the Americas” program as well as on the tasks that are to be performed by both the Regional Office and the sectors. Similarly, the current situation of UNI and UNI americas was examined along with the challenges for 2010.



Other major issues addressed had to do with the status of trade union development projects, the relationship with the Heads of Department in Nyon, the organizing campaigns, the situation in the Caribbean, the specific missions, and the importance of managing relations with affiliates in Canada, the United States and Mexico more effectively. Furthermore, the staff looked into Human Rights issues, particularly the cases of Colombia and Guatemala, and discussed the commitments and solidarity actions towards Haiti and Chile.



A new organizational strategy and methods were adopted with a view to optimizing both services provided to affiliates and management outcomes.



Finally, objectives and tasks were set for the next Regional Women’s Committee and UNI americas Regional Committee meetings to be held in Cartagena, Colombia, in April 2011.
