Metro Romania announced that they will hire 600 people for two new hypermarkets (Real and Metro Cash & Carry) located in the capitol city of Bucharest. In Romania the retail sector is one of the few sectors which still are hiring even if it is a lower pace than just a few years ago, before the global crisis also hit Eastern Europe.

The two new hypermarkets have been estimated to cost about €40 millions. Real has been expanding even through the crisis and last year it opened its 24th store which was its first store in Ploiesti, some 100 kms from Bucharest. a project which would cost about €24millions and employ 280 people.





These are good news for Romanian workers and come after a period where analysts have downgraded the expectation to the performance of the Romanian economy. The so-called "bonanza" seems to be over and the very high growth rates which where experienced before the onslaught of the global crisis may not return for a long time.





Given the good relationship between UNI Commerce and Metro and its subsidiaries this expansion is warmly welcomed and provides UNI Commerce affiliate FSCL with opportunities to organise the workers.
