A New Zealand courier driver has lost her licence after driving on a learner licence and crashing into a colleague's vehicle as they fought over who would get to a job first. She crashed into the back of her colleague's car as he tried to beat her to a job so he could get paid for it as they are only paid for each delivery they do. When he braked suddenly she ploughed into the back of his car, breaking the arm of another colleague who was in the passenger seat beside her. The company when trying to explain why they has drivers without a full licence said; "When the company advertises for drivers it asks for people to be fully licensed. Most of our drivers are fully licensed but since we only operate during the day, and only small distances around town, it is OK to have people on their restricted."



UNI Global union Head of Post & Logistics Neil Anderson, said, "This is what happens when proper regulations for global delivery are not in place, companies only pay "piece" rates and people get injured fighting to get to jobs,. courier companies need to be properly licensed and workers paid proper wages under a collective contract. Liberalisation will continue to throw up these crazy situations.
