Local and National leaders and workplace representatives of Basin-Is who are involved in the projects underway in Turkey met with UNI Graphical to discuss the outcomes from 2009 and to talk about the priorities for 2010.



The President of Basin-Is Yakup Akkaya provided a comprehensive report on the progress made by the Union in organizing workers in multinational companies. The union has a clear focus on organizing activity and has identified a number of companies that the union will concentrate on.



As part of the ongoing work within the project a further organizer will be employed to assist in developing campaigns around organizing.



The Union has also conducted seminars for over 100 Health and Safety workplace representatives. Arising from these seminars the Union has now established an Occupational Health and Safety Committee who will be responsible for



Þ monitoring and coordinating OHS activities,

Þ preparing annual Programme,

Þ preparing training materials

Þ organising training activities



The participants selected a representative from each of the workplace (where more than 50 workers employed) to form the Basin-Is OHS Committee.



Basin-Is has developed very good union structures and is very focused on organizing graphical and packaging workers in both national and multinational companies.
