Yesterday, UNI europa attended EFFAT Food, Beverages and Tobacco sector General Assembly European Conference on Ínvesting in people - Fighting precarious work" to discuss possible future collaboration on the issues of temporary agency workers in the sector. UNI Europa, represented by Rachel Owens the Policy Officer for the TAW sector, in addressing the congress stressed the need for better working conditions and pay for temporary agency workers and for full equal treatment of these workers in order to stop any deterioration of conditions for permanent staff.



EFFAT's General Secretary Harold Wiedenhofer welcomed UNI Europa's participation and the discussions which followed. He emphasised the need for the development of minimum standards for seasonal work which is often carried out by temporary agency workers, and the need better EU regulation of all types of precarious work. EFFAT supported UNI Europa in its calls for a full and good implementation of the EU TAW Directive across all the EU member states in particular with reference to broad definitions of pay and working conditions, the implementation of strong anti-avoidance measures and ensuring the widest possible coverage of workers.
