UNI was among the thousands of workers who demonstrated in front of the Los Angeles City Hall Friday the 13th of August, to demand that the US Government make getting people back to work as a priority. They also demanded that plans to cut public services such as proposals to deliver mail only 5 days a week, instead of the current 6 days, be shelved. Several thousand NALC letter carriers came in 65 buses to demand that 6 day delivery be maintained and that public spending programmes be put in place that would see people returning to work. The rally which was attended by many unions from California was addressed by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (D), Letter Carriers (NALC) President Fredric Rolando, Maria Elena Durazo, and executive secretary-treasurer of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.



The thousands at the rally, which was also attended by Neil Anderson, Head of UNI Post & Logistics, who was in Los Angeles attending the NALC Biennial Congress, made their voices heard throughout the city as they chanted, "5 day, No way" repeatedly and supported the call for more jobs to help people out of the serious unemployment that is throughout the Los Angeles region.
