The EU was one step closer to making rules on late payments by public authorities and private businesses stronger. The proposal’s aim is to improve cashflow for small and medium sized companies (including many cleaning and private security companies) as it would ensure a 30 day deadline for payments (extended to 60 days in exceptional circumstances). Fines would be issued if this deadline was not reached.



European employers in the property services sector have long highlighted the lack of a constant and reliable cashflow as the reason for a lack of wage rises or training for workers. The deal, which still must be formally approved by the European Parliament and the member states, would aim to rectify this situation and it is a hoped that there would also be a marked improvement for property services workers across Europe.
