Over 40 Graphical and Packaging delegates joined with their Japanese colleagues during the World Congress in Nagasaki.
The President Michel Muller welcomed everyone to the evening and spoke about the significance of holding the Congress in Nagasaki. He said that graphical and packaging unions throughout the world had always been involved in the quest for world peace and it was vital that we all continue to commit to seeing a world free of nuclear weapons.
He expressed his appreciation to the Japanese trade union movement for their welcome and organization of this Congress, in particular Bro Ito Eicho from the UNI Japan office who has done a wonderful job in coordinating this effort.
Nagasaki was also the birthplace of printing in Japan and so it is fitting that Graphical & Packaging unions gather together with union colleagues from other sectors to discuss and plan the work of UNI for the next 4 years.
In response Bro Takei, the General Secretary of All Printing Bureau and the Vice-President of UNI Apro Graphical & Packaging thanked the President for his words and spoke about the significance of Nagasaki and how committed the Japanese Unions were to continuing the fight for peace. He said workers everywhere were feeling the effects of the ongoing technology and changes that have been introduced in the industry. He said his members were proud to have printed the stamps that have recognised the UNI Congress being held in Japan.
The night concluded with Sergio Aldana the General Secretary of STEPLEA and on behalf of the Central American Graphical Unions made a presentation to Adriana Rosenzvaig for all her work in that region.
