Solidarity Support for UNI Affiliates Seeking to Enforce the Provisions of the Securitas-UNI/Swedish Transport Workers’ Union Global Agreement
UNI Affiliates in the US, Canada, Poland, India and Portugal have faced unfair anti-union treatment by Securitas, in violation of the provisions of the Securitas-UNI/Swedish Transport Workers’ Union Global Agreement. These include the failure to recognise a union even when chosen by a majority of workers in numerous cities throughout the US and Canada.
According to reports from workers in several countries, Securitas management has intimidated, harassed, threatened and disciplined unionists for attempting to form a union. Nearly 100 anti-union incidents have been documented in the US and Canada alone during 2010.
These unfair practices violate the letter and spirit of the 2006 Securitas-UNI/Swedish Transport Workers’ Union Global Agreement and the company’s Code of Conduct and are contrary to the ILO Conventions, the United Nation’s Global Compact principles the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Corporations.
