Representatives from CEP Canada, President Dave Coles and Administrative Vice-President Wendy Sol, met with Counselor Manfred Auster of the German Embassy in Ottawa.



President Coles asked the Counselor to forward a letter to the German Minister of Finance to speak with Deutsche Telekom about signing a global agreement with UNI.



CEP acknowledged Deutsche Telekom's good relations with their union ver.di. and how important it is to continue this practice with their subsidiaries across the world. CEP outlined that there should be "One Company - One Standard" in the approach the company operates under both in and outside of Germany. The CEP delegation emphasised the unfair labour practices in the US with Deutsche Telekoms largest subsidiary outside Germany, T-Mobile mobiles USA. They said that their behaviour is tainting the company image around the world.



The Counselor said he would pass on the concerns of CEP to the Ambassador and will see that the Minister of Finance receives President Coles' letter.



President Coles said, "CEP is committed to defend Telecom workers wherever they work. We need to ensure that multinationals practice fair labour standards, especially those relating to organising rights and collective bargaining, in all their operations globally".
