Tesco Kipa workers and UNI strengthen ties to get recognition



Tesco Kipa workers and their union Tez-Koop-Is together with UNI Global Union have held further discussions as regards their demand for union recognition at Tesco Kipa.



Alke Boessiger, Head of UNI Commerce visited stores and held meetings with leader workers and the union at which their concerns about working conditions and the refusal by Tesco Kipa to recognise the union were a priority.

Workers at Tesco Kipa have been waiting patiently for almost a year for the company to recognise their union and enter into collective negotiations. More than 70% of the workers are members of UNI affiliate Tez-Koop-Is.

Up to now the company has refused to hold official talks with the union but has instead appealed the decision by the labour ministry about the union majority at Tesco Kipa.



Workers are now quickly running out of patience and different strategies have been discussed how to bring about progress.



Further court hearings have been scheduled for 27 March and 4 April where a decision is expected to be issued about the union's eligibility to represent workers in the retail sector and at Tesco Kipa.
