UNI Post & Logistics affiliate in Senegal, SNTPT, has advised that there has been savage aggression by the police against postal workers who were holding a peaceful meeting in a local post office. UNI condemns the uses of police in peaceful union activities and demands the Senegal Post and the Government immediately take steps to stop such aggression. The SNTPT has mobilised all postal workers to converge Friday, May 27, 2011 at the postal Giro center to show their solidarity with Giro workers and protest against this violation of trade union freedoms and human rights.



Other unions in Senegal will also be present at the protest to support the postal workers in this struggle against intimidation by the police and authorities.



The union also report that their general meetings are being systematically infiltrated by thugs andat the postal financial centre in Dakar, the police came with tear gas and batons against the workers. The union is now demanding that the CEO resign and that the Post Office stops police involvement and discusses the issues rationally with the union.
