The International Solidarity Fund, which is negotiated in CUPW’s Urban Operations Collective Agreement, has paid for:

• An ongoing Solidarity project with the Communication Workers Union of South Africa. We have assisted them in holding workshops. One of the last workshops gave the Union the momentum to successfully push South Africa Post to hire over 1,000 temporary workers into permanent positions.
• A delegation to the United States to investigate how mechanized sequencing is affecting letter carriers. The tour was hosted by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
• A task force to Japan to investigate the new sorting machines Canada Post is introducing as part of Modern Post.
• A Modern Post Conference in Ottawa in which CUPW members met and discussed issues facing postal workers, including the introduction of new technology and the economic crisis. This was attended by Unions representing post office workers from Norway, Belgium, France, Korea, Australia, Great Britain and the Unites States.
