The Graphical Union of Malaysia the PIEU successfully held a recognition ballot at the plant of Gieseke and Devrient in Malaysia last week.



The result of the ballot was over 90% of the workers voting in favour of forming a union at the plant. This culminated a long campaign by the Union to organise one of the world’s major security printing company. G & D is a German Company and through the UNI Graphical & Packaging network the PIEU have been organising in the plant over the last 12 months.

This is a significant breakthrough for the Malaysian Graphical Union and the overwhelming vote in support of forming the Union now means that workers at G & D have the endorsement of the workers to negotiate a Collective Agreement.



Bro Kumar thanked the Graphical & Packaging sector for their assistance in providing resources for the organising campaign, he also thanked the German print union Verdi for their support.
