Monica Okpe, the Norwegian trade unionist sacked by DHL, celebrated her victory in the Norwegian labour court yesterday over DHL's anti union actions. In a unanimous and binding verdict delivered late in the afternoon the court ruled that Norwegian labour laws have been broken, and she should be reinstated and awarded 42,000Euro compensation.



The verdict which restores her respect, was a huge relief for Monica who said; "I could not have gone through all these months of insecurity without the support of my co-workers, my local union and the overwhelming international support. This proves that international solidarity works and shows the power that a united trade union movement can wield."

UNI, ITF and affiliates have been supporting Monica through her long struggle against her unjust sacking, throughout which she has been championed by her union, the Norsk Transportarbeiderforbund (Norwegian Transport Workers’ Union) and other Norwegian unions.
