Workers have repeatedly submitted proposals for a collective labour agreement, to which the company has always responded negatively, trying to delay and discourage the rest of the workers, who nevertheless are organizing to enforce their rights.



The company does not acknowledge the dangers faced by the sector’s workers in carrying out their daily duties, and maintains the standpoint that the work done has the same risks as any other.



Adán Jara, general secretary of the Workers Union of Prosegur SA stated that "since December 21, 2011 we have been trying to negotiate with the company the signing of a collective agreement, but they do not accept including the articles we presented and which are essential for the type of work we carry out, such as dangers. They [the employers] offer post-mortem benefits. What good are these after we die? "



Meanwhile, Carlos Britez Castellano, the strikers’ spokesman said: "It’s been more than 7 months since we started discussing the signing of the collective agreement with the company. Included in the agreement is having no layoffs, and they fired many colleagues during this time. Many workers are afraid because of this intimidation.”



The workers demanded that as well as receiving payment for dangers, they should collect the corresponding overtime pay, claiming that "The company pays us as it pleases for overtime. People who have been working there for 9 years are immediately fired" stated Britez.



Actions taken include an 8-day strike and the possibility of extending it for a further period of 8 days. Faced with these facts, UNI Americas states that it will accompany the workers in their struggle for the recognition of their legitimate rights.
