In April 2012, UNI MEI concluded a global agreement with the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) to forge closer cooperation in areas of common interest such as on health and safety and gender.



In the spirit to exchange on ideas and expertise among social partners, UNI MEI was invited to share its knowledge and understanding on the theme Youth and the Future at the recent ABU TV Documentary Co-Production Meeting for 3^rd cycle of CARE on the 29 August – 1 September 2012 in Beijing, China, hosted by the CCTV.



CARE (CHANGE ASIA, RESCUE THE EARTH) is a documentary co-production project of the ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) which was initiated by KBS (Korean Broadcasting System). CARE aims to inform the public about global issues which are directly related to the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as promote the media’s social responsibility to make this world a better place for all.



Fourteen (14) broadcasters from around the Asia region attended the workshop to present their story pitch on the co-production. Some of the stories include ‘The Tragedy of Asia Minimum Wages – Why can’t Asian youths break out of poverty’ (KBS-Korea), children and opportunities and access to education (BBS-Bhutan, LNTV-Laos, NBT-Thailand) and HIV-AIDS and youth (RTM-Malaysia). Climate change and youth driven initiatives were also among the thematics raised by at least 2 broadcasters (RTHK-Hong Kong and NHK-Japan).



The follow up rough cut workshop has been slated for March 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
