The Meeting was to express grave concerns about Mexico’s ongoing and flagrant violations of international labour rights and standards.



The delegation presented Embassy Officials with the ITUC 2012 report on Mexican trade union rights violations and a letter to the Mexican President, calling on the Mexican Government to:



• Provide justice for the families of the 65 miners killed at Pasta de Conchos in February 2006

• Adhere to international labour standards and ILO recommendations

• End the use of employer-dominated protection contracts (fake collective agreements with corrupt unions)

• End the persecution of independent democratic unions and union leaders and activists and free jailed union activists

• Repeal the regressive, anti worker labour laws enacted in December 2012

• Reinstate unlawfully fired union activists (SME, PKC, Vidriera de Potosi/Grupo Modelo, Honda, Calzado Sandak/Bata)

• Allow free and fair union elections (PKC, Excellon, Honda, Atento)



In addition, the delegation raised the failure of the Mexican Government to properly investigate the CLC complaint against Canadian-based Excellon Resources under the OECD corporate responsibility guidelines.



The meeting, which was part of the Global Days of Action on Labour Rights in Mexico, including Global Unions and trade unions from around the world, organized by the Tri National Solidarity Alliance, ITUC and Global Unions.
