UNI Global Union and Codere sign a global agreement
The agreement, signed in Madrid today, is a landmark in UNI’s efforts to organise workers in the gaming sector. Codere is one of the world’s largest players in the private gaming sector with 186 gaming halls and 900 sports betting centres and 22,000 staff.
UNI Global Union General Secretary Philip Jennings and the President of UNI Gaming Daniel Amoroso signed the global agreement with Codere’s Head of Corporate Human Resources, Rafael López Enriquez. UNI’s Spanish affiliates active in the gaming sector, the CHTJ-UGT and FECOHT-CCOO
Jennings said, “UNI would like to thank all its affiliates involved in bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion and especially the General Secretary of the CHTJ-UGT, Francisco Dominguez and the General Secretary of FECOHT-CCOO, Javier Gonzalez Martino who are with us today and signatories to the agreement. We are breaking through in the gaming sector!”
Jennings added, “This is a significant agreement both for the Codere workers and the wider gaming sector. It sets a benchmark for workers’ rights at Codere which should be applied across the whole gaming industry. The company is acknowledging the right of the employees to form a union free from fear and to collective bargaining. UNI will work with its affiliates and Codere management to ensure that the company stands by this agreement to follow the labour standards set down by the ILO and the Ruggie Principles. We are pleased with the agreement but the real work starts here.”
President of UNI Gaming Daniel Amoroso said, “This is a first in the sector, we now have a new standard of global social responsibility in this growing area of employment.”
Codere’s Head of Corporate Human Resources, Rafael López Enriquez concluded, “This confirms our commitment to social dialogue it's a positive message to staff and the market. We look forward to working with UNI Global Union.”
