He gave two examples of outstanding achievements as a result of good cooperation and coordination with the Japanese finance sector affiliates and among affiliates from other various sectors.
The first example is the new affiliation of the Japanese trust bank union with UNI, where UNI cultivated trust and friendship with union leaders through various UNI’s and UNI Apro’s activities which helped them understand and appreciate the values of joining the UNI family. Seki underscores that frequent communication maintains good relationships and ensures that the other party's interests are met, this is key to successful organizing. In addition, Seki calls for good team work and a collective strategy to organize women especially reaching out to young generation.
The second example is the successful and popular union events organized by UNI Liaison Council in Japan for young activists and potential union leaders. The annual English Camp provides opportunities for participants to be exposed to the global union movement in English, as well as to make new friends from other sectors. Even after the event, they are keeping networks and their motivation. Bro.Seki suggested South Asian women to plan unique and value-added activities to attract more women and young members.
When asked about his own federation’s women participation, Seki answered that FNIU has successfully increased the number of women Executive Committee members from zero to four. He added this was a result of the advice taken from the active women union leaders from other countries through UNI Apro activities.
The South Asian women were inspired by his strong message that union work is based on the teamwork, the significance of global union cooperation and the importance of partnership and mutual respect between men and women in workplaces and unions.
