As part of a billion dollar restructuring effort, IBM is reportedly cutting up to 8,000 jobs globally. The Alliance@IBM union reports that as of June 15, almost 3,000 jobs in the US and Canada have been lost since the company initiated the reforms, and more than 700 jobs in Germany, 250 jobs in Italy and 120 jobs in Denmark have also been cut. More than 1,000 of the jobs cuts are said to be in IBM’s Systems and Technology groups, which makes server and storage systems.



The company announced the worldwide restructuring plan in April following the company’s poor first-quarter financial showing. IBM currently employs about 430,000 workers.
