UNI Finance President and delegation representing UNI Africa, America, Asia & Pacific and Europe met local trade union leaders in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture and listened to their traumatic experiences from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.
“We want to share our stories, experiences and feelings with the rest of the world,” said Kenji Kamei General Secretary of Sendai Bank New Workers Union. He lamented that the people in North Eastern Japan had to overcome with many hardships and sufferings to re-build their lives after the tsunami disaster.
The local union leaders shared how they effectively responded to the needs of the community following the disaster. The Japanese unions took collective actions to comfort the tsunami victims who lost everything in their lives.
UNI Finance President Edgardo Iozia conveyed his sympathies to the families of the tsunami victims and congratulated the people in Miyagi prefecture for their courage and determination to rebuild and resume their lives so quickly. Iozia assured the leaders that the stories following the disaster will be shared amongst members of the UNI family and rest of the world. He said that the UNI Finance delegation to Sendai consists of representatives for over a million finance industry employees across the globe and they will also be sure to share the Japanese experience in rallying to rehabilitate and rebuild lives efficiently.
Edgardo thanked UNI Apro Finance President Yutaka Seki for his initiative to organizing the study tour to Sendai following the UNI Finance UNI LCJ Global Workshop in Tokyo.
