Happy International Youth Day!

International Youth Day is to highlight the issues and struggles that young workers face. There are over 74 million young workers without jobs. Youth unemployment is in the news frequently and continues to rise. Job prospects are limited, most are now looking abroad for work and even finding jobs out of their qualified professions to try live.

This year the theme set by the United Nations is " Youth Migration: Moving Development Forward ." The theme is due to the fact that there is an estimated 27 million international young migrants. These migrant workers are exposed to great opportunities by living in a new country with better wages than their home country. However, it is not all a perfect picture, most of these jobs are not unionised so young workers can be discriminated against or even exploited.

To celebrate the International Youth Day, the ITUC have just launched a programme called "Get Organised" where it promotes the organisation and recruitment of young workers into unions.

UNI Youth are actively encouraging UNI affiliated unions to get their young workers more involved in the union and also to organise these workers. UNI Youth conducts training and seminars to improve skills and knowledge of young workers globally.
