CWU members across the UK have increased the intensity of their campaign to stop the privatisation of Royal Mail as the summer draws to a close. Strike action in the Post Office counters network have continued in recent weeks as members their tire over management's business plan that relies solely on cuts and reductions in service. With the planned sale of Royal Mail inching nearer, the unions have been joined by the Labour Party, which launched last week a campaign of its own called Save the Daily Delivery.



Royal Mail middle managers were recently balloted by their union, Unite, on their position regarding Royal Mail's privatisation and they overwhelming disapproved of Royal Mail's current plans.



CWU members in Post Offices are striking Monday 26 August in Scotland and Tuesday 27 August in various locations across the UK over closures, reductions in service and job cuts. These latest rounds of strike activity will be the tenth and eleventh walkouts of the summer as CWU have pushed Post Office management to sit down and bargain a new agreement for their members.



A CWU-led campaign, Save Our Royal Mail conducted a bus tour of the UK spreading their message about privatisation and working with allies to build opposition to the plan being pushed by the Coalition government. CWU General Secretary Billy Hayes said, "A publicly owned Royal Mail is an asset to this country, not only in terms of the rich history that is represents but also in terms of the viable business that it has turned into and it should remain in public ownership for the benefit of the people of this country as a result."
